Hutong Courtyard Hotels and Guest Houses in Beijing

Traditional courtyard design is the typical and main architecture in old Beijing, and it's the essence of this city. During the City development, countless traditional courtyards have been demolished and replaced by the skyscrapers and blocks of modern flats (apartments). The old houses are still disappearing every year.

 

Beijing is not just about the Great Wall and Forbidden City. The real local's life, Chinese culture and Beijing's history are all to be found among these surviving Hutongs, courtyard houses and behind these mysterious closed doors. We strongly recommend that you should stay in the traditional style courtyard accommodation in the Historical Conservation Residential Zone while you are in Beijing, instead of the modern looking star hotels which you can get anywhere in the world. It will be a special experience.

 

In Beijing, the traditional courtyard B&Bs/hotels have all been converted from former residences. So each one only has a limited number of rooms. Maoer Hutong, Di'anmenwaidajie, Dongcheng District, Beijing. Very close to Nanluoguxiang Lane, Shichahai / Houhai lakes, Bell & Drum Towers. Mao'er Hutong is also on one of the Hutong tour route.

Maoer Hutong is an historical Hutong in conservation (residential) zone in central Beijing, where there are some former residences of royal family members (Qing dynasty) and other notable people.
